Main Characters

ERICA BAUMANN

is also 27, also an actor, is from Alabama, and is best friends and roommates with Pat. She also works at the reception desk. She's extremely funny, kind, more aware than Pat, but sheʼs a physically heavy woman.

Personally: She is desperate to be seen as funny, to belong, to connect again after COVID, but also sheʼs humiliated by her body type while acting, dating, and living. She doesnʼt know how to say no to men who show her attention (which can be relatable), but she also wonders, should she lose the weight, or accept herself and her size? which is a universal struggle.

Professionally: She wants to be a proper comic actor and if she canʼt be, she doesnʼt know who she is. After a sexually degrading audition in the pilot, she too calls the agent and says she canʼt take these humiliating auditions anymore, and she goes on her own search for belonging. She starts a support group for actors with "non-traditional body types", to help purge her pain, and support her peers. Sheʼll try stand up comedy, she wants to try social work too, to help, but she has no idea how to do that. In fact, both characters want belonging and want for others to belong but they're awkward, blind to their privilege, and always stepping in it; which fosters comedy and creates a large part of the tension for the show.
